Claim Herald publishes practical explainers for people who suddenly find themselves dealing with an insurance company, an accident, an employer or a business that won’t put things right. Each section collects guides on a common kind of problem — from filing and appealing an insurance claim to understanding what happens after a car accident, a workplace dispute or a family estate matter.
Our approach
- Plain English first. We explain terms like “adjuster”, “statute of limitations” or “contingency fee” the first time they appear, and avoid jargon where a simpler word will do.
- Step by step. Most guides are organised around the process as you will experience it: what to do first, what to gather, what to expect next and where people commonly go wrong.
- Independent. No attorney, law firm or insurer pays to be mentioned or recommended in our guides. Advertising on the site is clearly separate from editorial content.
- General, not personal. Rules differ by state and by policy. Our guides describe how things generally work in the United States and point out where the details are likely to vary.
When to talk to a licensed attorney
A guide can help you understand your options, but some situations call for a professional who can look at the facts. Consider speaking with a licensed attorney in your state if:
- someone was seriously injured, or the amounts involved are significant;
- a claim has been denied and the insurer won’t explain why, or an appeal deadline is approaching;
- you have been asked to sign a release, settlement or recorded statement and are unsure what it means;
- a filing deadline may be close, or the other side already has legal representation.
Many state bar associations run lawyer referral services, and legal aid organisations may help if cost is a concern.
